Motor Homes That Fit Into Garage

From LoveToKnow Camping

You may be familiar with the largest and most luxurious motor homes available, but what about the smaller motor homes that fit into garage?

A Class A motor home like this one is likely too large for your garage. But what are your other options?

Available Motor Homes That Fit Into Garage

Some RV owners want to keep their motor homes in a garage for the sake of protecting them from the elements. Others are prevented from keeping recreational vehicles parked outside because of local ordinances. Whatever the reason, there are several options available to motor home buyers who don't want the largest available vehicles.

Class B Motor Homes

Class B motor homes are also known as campervans because they are often designed like a large van. Because of their smaller size and van-like nature, they are likely your best bet for finding motor homes that fit into garage. As an added advantage, these vehicles can be used for daily driving needs. This can free up garage space if your class B motor home is your second vehicle. These types of recreational vehicles handle similarly to a large van or SUV.

Roadtrek is a popular Class B manufacturer, and its vehicles are indicative of the size and capabilities of a campervan. Most models are less than seven feet wide, between 18 and 20 feet long, and range in height from 8 to 10 feet. Depending on the model, Roadtrek vehicles can seat up to seven passengers, but typically feature sleeping space for two to four campers. Available features include toilet, shower, refrigerator, beds, pantry, stove, faucets, heater, microwave, and more. In general, these models pack a lot of amenities in a small space, providing everything a couple or small family is likely to need for their camping travels. With the addition of a few tents, larger groups can also take advantage of the campervan for cooking and cleaning, while sleeping elsewhere. Volkswagen also offers a line of campervans, and fans of vintage camping trailers may want to try the classic VW bus, an early campervan.

Class C Motor Homes

Class C motor homes are another type of small motor home. These types of recreational vehicles are built on a van or truck base, with a portion of the motor home hanging over the driving area. This overhang helps conserve space compared to the largest Class A motor homes. Class C motorhomes vary widely in length, typically ranging from 20 to 30 feet. Shoppers will need to consider the dimensions carefully before purchasing one of these RVs with the intention of storing it in a garage.

Before You Buy

Think about the following questions before deciding on the appropriate size for your new motor home:

  • Do you want your motor home to just fit or to fit with room for working on the engine or loading gear?
  • What else do you need to fit in the garage? Even toolboxes along the wall or a few bikes can take away room from the RV.
  • How big is your garage door? It won't do you any good to find a motor home that fits inside the garage if you can't get it in there in the first place.
  • Can you rent a motor home? One positive aspect of rentals is they allow you to test out appropriate RV sizes for your garage before you make a commitment. If you can't park your motor home outside and you absolutely don't have room in your garage, a rental will allow you to enjoy the freedom of trailer and RV camping without needing a place to keep the RV when you're done for the season.
  • Would a pole barn or a second garage be a more appropriate home for your new vehicle? Maybe instead of thinking about motor homes that fit into garage, your efforts would be better spent thinking about garages that fit your dream motor home.
