Kings Dominion Campground

Kings Dominion campground is located near the Kings Dominion amusement park in Doswell, Virginia. It is one of only two accommodations located on the park’s grounds.

Camp within minutes of the fun

While it may not be near a natural park or a beach, this campground is surprisingly rustic, with an overhead canopy of trees on many of its sites. Its other features give campers the comforts of home. These include:

• Laundry facilities
• A camp store
• Two bath houses with hot water
• Outdoor swimming pool
• Playground
• Miniature golf course
• Volleyball court
• Game room

In addition, it has potable water tanks, a propane station and dumping facilities for campers that have recreational vehicles and a lodge with Direct TV service and free wireless Internet for people that want to work or just enjoy some downtime.

While it doesn’t have nearly as many amenities as some other campgrounds in touristy areas, its big draws are price and location, which makes it a favorite of many families who want to spend most of their time at the park during their stay.

While Kings Dominion Campground is a relatively small camping resort with only 244 sites, it still includes four different types of accommodations.

• Primitive tent sites allow people to pitch their own accommodations.
• Group fields allow large groups of people to camp together, sharing an open space.
• Air conditioned camping cabins let people without RVs camp in comfort during the summer.
• RV sites allow people with these vehicles a place to park and access electricity, sewer and water hookups.

All sites offer space for parking a car and have a fire pit and picnic tables.

The entrance to Kings Dominion is literally two minutes down the road from the campground. Everyone staying at the campground can take advantage of the free shuttle bus that operates several times a day. It will drop of and pick up right by the park’s gates. The shuttle can get crowded on heavy days at the park so there may be a wait, especially for those who wish to depart at peak times.

Pets are welcome both at the campground and on the shuttle. However, campers must leave them at the park’s kennel since they are not allowed inside Kings Dominion.

This campground is open the entire year, even during times when the amusement park is closed. It is convenient to most anyone traveling on 95 and is a good stopover destination. However, the outdoor pool is only open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

One common complaint is that there is sometimes a lot of noise due to nearby roads, roller coasters and a railway station.

Finding the campground is easy, especially since travelers can simply follow the signs to Kings Dominion. More detailed instructions are as follows:

• Take Interstate 95 to exit 98, State Route 30, which is labeled Doswell/Kings Dominion.
• Drive east on State Route 30 for .6 miles. It turns into Kings Dominion Blvd.
• Turn into the campground at 10061 Kings Dominion Blvd.
