Coast to Coast RV Camping
From LoveToKnow Camping
Coast to Coast RV camping allows you to stay in members only RV parks across the nation, as well as in many foreign countries.
Benefits of Members Only Camping
While you can find campgrounds nearly anywhere without a membership, Coast to Coast and other RV camping plans have some benefits to the family that camps often with their RV. Some of these benefits include:
- Members only campgrounds
- Special discounted rates
- Directories of participating RV parks
- Online reservations
- Maps and routes
- Exclusive chat boards and communities online
There are often a variety of other discounts and benefits such as insurance, emergency road service, and other helpful services. It is a good idea to talk to other people who have bought memberships. This way you will hear first hand how their experiences were and any insights that they might have.
Cost of Membership
Memberships may cost as much as $5000. The membership fees are determined by the home resort or park where you join. This is for a lifetime membership and it can be transferred if you find that you are unable to use it anymore. After the initial fee, there are yearly dues that need to be paid. These are subject to change, but run about $79 to $109 a year, depending on your membership package. You may also have to pay maintenance and other fees at the campground where you joined.
For these fees, you can stay free at your home park and a certain number of other parks (depending on your membership). You are also able to stay at other parks for a reduced rate, generally under $10. You may not stay at any park within a 125 mile radius of your home resort.
The memberships are a lot like a timeshare in this respect. If you RV often, or if it is the way you live then the fees and costs associated with a membership to Coast to Coast is worth it. If you are only going to camp a few times a year, you will probably be spending much more in fees than you would be if you just paid the full price at the campgrounds.
How to Save on Coast to Coast RV Camping Memberships
It is possible to save on memberships. Keep in mind that these memberships are lifetime in scope. People pay for them and then find that they can't use than a few years down the road. At that point, the memberships are sold for a small fraction of what the original purchaser paid. In fact, you can sometimes find them on eBay for less than $100.
Other places that you may find discounted and pre-owned memberships are:
- Craigslist
- Classified section of your newspaper
- RV Dealerships
- RV chat boards and websites online
- RV Park Store
If you are buying a membership from someone else, be sure that you understand all of the requirements and what your final out of pocket expenses will be. There may be transfer fees and other payments due that you will become liable for once you take over the membership. Always ask questions before signing anything. If you have any doubts, it is a good idea to have your lawyer look over the contract just to be sure of what you are agreeing to.
Coast to Coast RV Camping can be a wonderful experience, and can make your travel plans hassle-free if you take the time to do some research and make sure that one of these memberships is a good value for you.
By shopping around, taking your time and talking to other members, you can be sure that you are getting the best value, as well as the best membership benefits, for you.
