Bunkhouse Campers
From LoveToKnow Camping
When people refer to bunkhouse campers, they sometimes mean a camper that has one or more sets of bunk beds in it. In most cases, however, they are referring to B&F Specialties’ Bunkhouse brand of pop-up motorcycle campers and travel trailers. These compact trailers can be towed by most standard and large motorcycles and fold out into a sleeping area and a dressing area for one to two people.
Features of Bunkhouse Campers
What makes these campers different from other motorcycle campers is that the bows are on the outside. This means the person opening up the trailer does not have to reach inside of it to do so.
All Bunkhouse campers have the following features:
- Bed with foam mattress
- Front and back awnings
- Mesh side windows with double zipper closures
- Rear window for easy bed access
- Plastic interior windows
- LED taillights and stoplights
- Spare tire well
- Travel cover
- Gas propelled lids for easy opening and assembly
Models Available
Bunkhouse campers come in three different models to suit different campers’ needs. These three models are:
- The LX – This camper measures 113” by 38” and has 26 cubic feet of storage space. It has a king size bed and a den area underneath a zippered front awning.
- The SE – This camper is the same as the LX, except it has some additional features. It comes with a pop-out table, a plastic cooler, a screen room, chrome wheels and a travel cover in a designer color.
- The Lil B – This smaller camper has a full size bed and measures 100” long by 38” high. Its storage space is reduced to 16 cubic feet. It is easier to tow with a smaller motorcycle than the LX.
There is another Bunkhouse model called the Moriah. While this is a Bunkhouse product, it is not a camper. It is simply a trailer that can be used for storage. It holds up to 20 cubic feet of camping essentials and has an optional luggage rack. It’s a good option to use for two bikers camping together. They can use one bike to pull the camper and one bike to pull their luggage.
Bunkhouse Ultimate
In 2009, B&F Specialties introduced the Bunkhouse Ultimate, which is, again, an LX camper but has these luxurious extras:
- Carpeting
- Two clothes caddies to keep clothes unwrinkled
- Painted spare tire holder
- Aluminum wheels
More information about this limited addition camper is available by calling 847-350-9333.
There are also numerous options available on all Bunkhouse models. A complete listing is available on B&F Specialties’ website.
Ordering Bunkhouse Campers
The easiest way to order a Bunkhouse camper is directly through the manufacturer, either by calling the phone number above or by visiting the company’s showroom at 2481 Delta Lane in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The manufacturer also attends several bike rallies per year. While Bunkhouse ships all over the United States, it can be very expensive to transport such a large item so it is best to order in person.
Sometimes camper trading sites, such as Alibaba, will have used Bunkhouses up for sale. It’s also a good idea for people who don’t care if the camper is in factory condition to keep an eye on Craigslist and eBay regularly to spot good deals.
Safety
These campers have several safety features to help protect the motorcycle rider that is towing them. The camper’s brakes are designed to stop at the same time the motorcycle’s brakes do using an electric/hydraulic disc system to prevent the trailer from pushing the bike and the lights on the rear of the camper are designed to be bright but not blinding to other riders.
